Historical Canter of the Island
The ride for the Historical center of Florianópolis includes visit to the old buildings to appreciate its front with different architectonic styles. The tour around XV de novembro square is good to buy handicrafts made of pottery, which can be found in “Casa da Alfândega”. The Public Market is a traditional spot of the Island, fill with bars, restaurants, fish markets and shops. Reserve your saturday morning to seat at Box 32 next to the “manezinhos” (person who is born in Florianópolis) and enjoy the codfish rolls, shrimp pastel, and of course, the fresh oysters dip on champagne. And to escort, a famous craft cachaça with ginger smell.
Public Market
The Market is one of the most traditional spots of the city, considered a meeting point for natives and tourists. The building has over 100 bars, restaurants and shops that sell fishes, clothes, handicraft and shoes.
Largo da Alfândega
Build in 1876, in neo-classic style, the place has two rows. Nowadays on its superior floor is the office of National Institute of Historic and Artistic Patrimony – Iphan. On the lower floor is the place for art exhibitions promoted by Artists Association of Santa Catarina. The building is located next to Public Market, at historical center of Florianópolis.
Metropolitan Cathedral
Te oldest church of Florianópolis, build in 1675 in the center in front of XV de Novembro square.
XV de Novembro square
It was from there that the city started to grow. In the square are several busts sculpted in honor of famous catarinenses, like the painter Victor Meirelles, the historian José Boiteux and the poet Cruz e Souza. It has native and planted trees, among the traditional fig, big and old that needs support to its limbs. One of the main touristic spots of the island has a lot of superstition, like the one that says that a woman should walk around it 3 times to get a husband. Under its shadow, natives rest and talk wile tourists take pictures of this traditional scene.
Hercílio Luz bridge
The main post card of Florianópolis was build in 1922, under the command of American engineers and technicians and was opened in 1926. It was the only connection between the continent and the island, today is one of the biggest suspension bridges of the world. Nowadays it is closed for vehicles and pedestrians. At night its lights make a beautiful scenario.
Beira Mar Norte Avenue
Meeting point for those who search for good shape, Beira Mar Norte Avenue gets life in the end of the day. Is during the sun set that the athletes’ movement raises, the bars and restaurants open their doors and Hercílio Luz bridge starts to shine.
