With calm waters Ribeirão da Ilha beach has a fisherman village that still preserves the azorean architecture. The oyster farming is common in the region and this delicacy can be appreciated right there where is made.
One of the most antique communities of the island exalts history. There are cultivate a lot of old traditions such as “terno de reis” (players and singers come to peoples house), boi-de-mamão and pau-de-fita.

Ribeirão da Ilha was one of the first communities of the state and the first of Florianópolis to be inhabited by the Carijó indians. According to historians, the first portuguese and spanish navigators arrived in 1506 ish. Is considered one of the few places of the south of Brazil that conserves the characteristics of the portuguese colonization. With its azorean characteristics, the “Nossa Senhora da Lapa” church and the Etymology Museum that save documents and some pieces that tell the story of the region.
Gastronomy
This beach is indicated to delight the best oysters of the island. Real gastronomy festivals are offered in local restaurants, serving this sea food in the most diverse ways: as flavoring, grated and “in natura”. Extraordinary!
Florianópolis is the main oyster producer of Brazil and the best ones are produced at Ribeirão da Ilha. In Ribeirão there are also a lot of great restaurants that serve this dish, including a french restaurant.

Armação and Matadeiro
Besides the natural beauties this two beaches were very important for Florianópolis’ history. It was in Armação beach that the fisherman departure for whale hunting and in Matadeiro was where they kill it. From Armação beach, boats departure daily for rides in Campeche’s island, R$ 15,00 per person.
