The Portuguese – pioneers, hunters, Indians and adventurers – were the ones to grub Santa Catarina, spreading villages and population through the coast from the XVI century. The azorean immigrants came quite after, in the XVIII century, but they were the ones who shaped this peculiar human form that today inhabit the 500 kilometers of coast. On the second half of the last century the german arrived, spreading through Itajai’s valley, penetrating the country searching for better land and opportunities. With a lot of work and perseverance they built the state’s industry. Joinville, Blumenau, Brusque e Pomerode are cities that still preserve the strong german culture in architecture, gastronomy, accent and through popular parties, such as the famous Oktoberfest. In the end of the century the Italians arrived, the biggest migratory caravan received by Santa Catarina. They occupied specially the south of the state next to the coast. Until today cities like Criciúma, Urussanga and Nova Veneza preserve the pioneers’ traditions: the wine and grape culture, the love to the good table, the joy and the religiousness. But the mix of human types of Catarinenses of today also includes the cattleman that ride through Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo, the japanese, the Austrian and the gauchos, that populate the fertile land of the west. All of this people are responsible for the rich social and cultural diversity of Santa Catarina.

Serra do Tabuleiro – Santo Amaro da Imperatriz

Santo Amaro da Imperatriz, in Santa Catarina, next to Florianópolis, is located in a privileged region, where the nature, still intact, designed mountains imposing, besides countless waterfalls and a diverse fauna and flora. A true ecologic sanctuary inside the atlantic forest, rich in thermal waters. Santo Amaro da Imperatriz is considered the paradise of the south for adventure sports because the region is propitious for the practice of several of them, such as rafting, walks, bike, expeditions, and much more.

Espraiado’s Canyon

This canyon is located in the south in a huge area known as Campo dos Padres and is one of the most popular scenarios of Santa Catarina’s mountain ridge. From the longest part of the driven shore there is a beautiful waterfall of almost 100 meters inside the lake, where, sometimes, a rainbow shines that dances is the water drapes of its fall. On the right edge of the canyon there is a fantastic formation. São Joaquim National Park, the only national park totally Catarinense, has inside its limits the beautiful fount of Pelotas river and the church hill (1822 meters) with the Pedra Furada.

Limoeiro Trail

The first part of this trail is made of a downhill. Further along it becomes an open area with undergrowth vegetation. On this trail is possible to see part of the Parque Estadual da Serra do Tabuleiro (National Park of Tabuleiro’s Mountain Range). Created in 1975, with an area of 90.000 hectares including one of the most important areas of south of Brazil’s atlantic forest. On this trail there is also a lot of moss on the soil and on top of the rocks, forming a beautiful natural carpet.

Maneca’s Trail

On this trail is predominant the same kind of vegetation of Coqueiro Alto’s trail with closed forest. The soil is covered by dry leafs and limbs, contributing for increasing of matter. Fungus and bacteria contribute for this process, helping to decompose the rest of this vegetation.

Blumenau

A typical European scenario, marked by german architecture in einxamel stile. The city has beautiful gardens and diverse commerce with specialties of chocolate, crystals and bier houses. The German Village, where the great Oktoberfest happens, is formed by handicraft shops, gastronomy and space for events.

Balneário Camboriú

Praia de Balneário Camboriú de noiteThe most famous beach of the south has a long margin with bars and restaurants at the seafront, trails in the north and rocks deck on the south. The “Parque Unipraias” is formed of leisure areas, trails, climbing tree in Aguada’s hill and cable cars that unites the south part of margin and Laranjeiras beach. The monument Cristo Luz has a large space for pleasant evenings with live music. From up high the view of Balneário Camboriú is amazing. The city also offers a great diversity of shops and busy night life, with emphasis on the electronic music night clubs, live music clubs, restaurants and theme bars.

Brusque

A typical german city that calls attention for the characteristic of its architecture and for the development of the textile sector. Brusque is also a great place to shopping and has a great gastronomy

Bombinhas and much more

The small city of Porto Belo, the beaches of Bombas, Quatro Ilhas, Mariscal, Zimbros and Canto Grande are enchanted places. Deserve more emphasis Bombinhas beach, known for its crystal clear water and thin white sand. The diving practice, respecting the nature is what calls attention about this place.

Parque Unipraias

Parque Unipraias is a touristic complex with 47 cables cars that connect two beaches: Barra Sul and Laranjeiras. On the top of Aguada’s hill are located trails, observatories and big trees. From there is possible to see beautiful scenarios of Balneário Camboriú and Itapema.

Laguna – Garopaba – Guarda do Embaú

Laguna is the second oldest city of the state, founded in 1676. Its historical center charms by the beauty of the old azorean houses, specially Anita Garibaldi’s house. It is also worth to reserve some time to watch the fisher dolphins. These animals “help the fisherman” with the craft fishing.

Rosa’s Beach

Between hill, dunes, islands and lagoons, the beauty of atlantic ocean and Serra do Mar’s beauties composes one of the most beautiful scenarios of Brazil’s coast.

Ferrugem’s beach

Beautiful place with an extensive zone of sand, which is one of the biggest of the state.

Santa Paulina (Nova Trento)
